In Orange County, there are hundreds of licensed Board and Care facilities for the elderly (also known as RCFEs or Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly). Most are in private homes and are licensed for no more than six residents. In this setting the senior is in a home-like atmosphere with either a private room or a shared room (no more than two in a shared room). Meals, laundry, housekeeping, medication management and transportation to doctor appointments are provided.
There must be a care-giver on the premises at all times. These homes provide various levels of care. Many can care for non-ambulatory residents and can assist with dressing, bathing, eating and continence issues. Some are able to accommodate seniors with Dementia or Alzheimer’s disease. Other health issues can be cared for as well.
